Raquel Paiewonsky (b. 1969) is a Dominican multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans textiles, drawing, collage, video, and object-based media. Through these languages she constructs subtle poetics that intersect with the force of the issues she addresses. Nature emerges in her work as a territory for reframing the body—a space to rethink, restore, and open new forms of resistance and transformation.

Based in Santo Domingo, she has participated in major biennials and exhibitions across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, including the 53rd and 55th Venice Biennales, the Havana, Cuenca, Jamaica, and Ushuaia Biennials, as well as several internationally curated projects.

In 2015, she undertook a residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin (Davidoff Art Initiative), and in 2018 presented a mid-career retrospective at CAAM (Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno) in the Canary Islands, accompanied by a publication surveying a decade of her work. She has received multiple awards from the Eduardo León Jimenes Art biennale and the Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales, Santo Domingo. Her work is held in prominent international collections, including Daros-Latinamerica (Zurich), RISD Museum (Rhode Island), MOLAA (Los Angeles), Collection Servais (Brussels), Fundación Cortés (Puerto Rico), and the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo, among others.

Paiewonsky has led workshops and lectures at institutions in the Americas and Europe and maintains a strong commitment to art as a space for dialogue and education. She is a co-founder of the Quintapata collective and currently serves as Chair of the Fine Arts Department at the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design.
